A New Perspective: Magic Mushrooms

Curious about how a simple change could unlock your true potential? Dive into my transformative journey with psilocybin microdosing, where I discovered enhanced focus, emotional stability, and a renewed sense of purpose.

Microdosing psilocybin, the active compound in magic mushrooms, has gained significant attention for its potential to enhance cognitive function, emotional well-being, and creativity. This blog explores my personal journey with psilocybin microdosing, supported by scientific insights and practical observations.

Why I Began This Journey

My journey into microdosing psilocybin began as an attempt to manage my severe ADHD symptoms without relying on traditional medication. I've consciously chosen not to depend on ''Big Pharma'', as I don't want to spend my life taking daily medication. However, I found myself questioning this decision, looking for a "quick fix" for my ADHD struggles.

One of my closest friends had faced the same problem. He tried almost every ADHD medication available, and although they worked initially, they eventually made him feel more like a drug addict than a person. I understand that everyone reacts differently to these medications, but the thought of taking a pill every day, sometimes twice a day, to manage a natural condition seemed absurd and unnecessary.

In my search for alternative solutions, I discovered that my friend had already been considering microdosing psilocybin. He had hesitated to start alone, fearing a placebo effect. When he mentioned this to me, I quickly decided to join him.

Here are a few of the ADHD-related issues I faced before starting this journey:

  • Becoming overstimulated by people
  • The constant need to multitask, often resulting in accomplishing nothing by the end of the day
  • Procrastinating until the last possible moment
  • Thinking selfishly about others
  • Difficulty staying focused during conversations
  • The need to do everything quickly and practically, or not at all

These aren't all the issues I faced, but they were the most prominent. Make no mistake, these were not minor complaints. Most people without ADHD would describe these symptoms and the constant speed of thinking as ''Burn-out'' levels.

First things First: Understanding Psilocybin Microdosing

Microdosing involves taking sub-perceptual doses of psychedelics, meaning the dose is low enough not to produce significant alterations in perception, mood, or cognition typically associated with full doses of these substances. Studies suggest that microdosing can lead to improved mood, increased focus, and enhanced creativity without the intense experiences of higher doses.

I also understood that there are multiple ways to use psilocybin, ranging from therapy sessions to full trip experiences. However, these weren't what I was looking for. I felt I needed a balanced approach to self-discovery and learning about alternative medication. Before starting this journey, I had already discovered several benefits, making it a no-brainer for me to give it a try:

  • Enhanced Cognitive Function: Research has shown that psilocybin can stimulate neurogenesis, the growth of new neurons and neural connections. This may enhance learning, memory, and cognitive flexibility.
  • Emotional Stability: Psilocybin interacts with serotonin receptors, potentially stabilizing mood and reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression.
  • Increased Creativity: Users report heightened creativity and problem-solving abilities, possibly due to altered brain network connectivity.

It wasn't until I listened to Joe Rogan's podcast about mushrooms that I was completely convinced and knew I had to try it.

My Early Struggles

During the first few weeks of my experiment, I didn't feel any noticeable effects. I even started to believe it was all just a big placebo. My friend, on the other hand, experienced a direct impact from week one. I couldn't understand why two people of the same weight, age, and kind of similar issues would react so differently.

Then I discovered the reason – I had been taking only half the dose that my friend was taking. I immediately started taking the full dose, and it didn't take long for me to feel the effects as well. I kept a small journal during this experiment. Here is the timeline:

11-4-2024

  • First dose

22-4-2024

  • Noticeably more relaxed. Everything feels less overwhelming, and my reactions to stimuli are softer.

26-4-2024

  • First day my mind slowed down from 10,000 km/h to 5,000 km/h. Noticeable difference.
  • Better able to process steps mentally during multitasking, like immediately applying golden nuggets of information from audio books.
  • Mentally more neutral, with no emotional peaks and a stable flow mode.

28-4-2024

  • Noticeably less frustrated in situations like traffic, stores, or other interactions with people.
  • Driving at 110 instead of 145 km/h, realizing it allows for relaxation and better focus on audiobooks or conversations.
  • Realizing some tasks are better done at a slower pace but with 90% accuracy compared to rushing through them with only 50% accuracy.

10-6-2024

  • Noticed changes in behavior while speaking. Thought more before speaking and spoke much more slowly compared to my ADHD version before.

Final Thoughts: The Impact of Microdosing

Embarking on this journey of microdosing psilocybin has been nothing short of eye-opening. As someone who has struggled with ADHD and made a conscious decision to avoid traditional medications, this experiment offered a glimmer of hope. The initial weeks were challenging and filled with doubts, especially when I saw my friend experiencing immediate benefits while I felt nothing.

However, this journey has taught me the importance of patience, precision, and self-awareness. Adjusting my dose brought significant changes, and I began to notice a calmer mind, reduced frustration, and an overall more balanced approach to daily challenges.

This experience has reinforced my belief in exploring alternative solutions and being open to new possibilities. It’s a reminder that our paths to improvement and self-discovery are unique, and sometimes, it’s the small adjustments that can make a big difference.

If you're considering a similar path, I encourage you to do thorough research, consult with professionals, and most importantly, listen to your body and mind. This journey is deeply personal, and what works for one person may not work for another.

Personal note

This journey into microdosing psilocybin has been transformative. Stay curious, stay patient, and keep striving for the best version of yourself.

With gratitude and determination,
